Youth on Record launched YOR’s new Youth Media Studio to better serve youth online. After a focus group with some young creatives, it was clear that the current website wasn’t providing young people with the best access for all of YOR’s out-of-school programs and resources.

Youth on Record engaged long-time partner, Elevated Third, and together they collaboratively built the new YOR Youth Hub that includes fresh colors and design, a streamlined events calendar, and easier navigation among YOR programs' information and resources.

Open Lab

Open Lab is a free after school program for young creatives ages of 14 through 20 who are interested in exploring music production, song recording, music lessons and artist development. Our program is facilitated by local professional musicians who are committed to helping participants grow as aspiring artists.

At Open Lab, we foster a supportive and inclusive community that values self-expression and creativity. Through community dialogue and mentorship, we encourage self-liberatory practices that empower young creatives to leverage their inherent skills.

If you enjoy creating, and connecting to a like-minded community, we welcome you to join us.
With questions, please email openlab@youthonrecord.org

Academic Success

Youth on Record partners with schools in Denver and Aurora, where empowerment takes center stage in our classrooms. Students tackle real-world issues and social justice themes, weaving academic standards in music, social studies, and performance to find their voices. Guest speakers, field trips, and collaborative projects ignite a journey of self-discovery as they explore their heritage and embrace the stories of others.

Podcasting

Youth on Record’s Podcasting program gives youth the chance to explore podcasting, radio, and sonic arts through hands-on learning in the field and in the studio. Through in-school and paid internships, young creatives ages 14-24 have the opportunity to produce original audio pieces while developing skills in writing, interviewing, storytelling, and audio production.

YOR also produces multiple youth-facing and youth centered podcasts, including Underground at the Showcase, Generation Collaboration, and My Youth on Record.

Email Podcasting@youthonrecord.org to get involved and visit our careers page for upcoming internship opportunities.

Founding Our Future
The Fellowship

The Youth on Record Fellowship program is an intensive and comprehensive 10-month program that is designed to bridge the gap between high school and either post-secondary school or a career. Each month, YOR Fellows participate in personal, professional and artistic development programming, designed to help them set and achieve goals for their next stage of life.

Block Party
Block Party

Traditionally, YOR hosts a youth-led, youth-designed community block party in the La Alma/Lincoln Park neighborhood featuring musical performances from youth ages 11-24. The event brings together 500+ community members in a free, day-long family friendly festival where audiences hear original music and poetry from youth who have been engaged in YOR's year-long programming. Participants also receive community services and resources at the event. This is part of YOR's lease agreement with the Denver Housing Authority.

Twenty One Pilots Group Pic
Twenty One Pilots came to visit Youth on Record on December 11th, 2015. They toured the space, met our young people and recorded in the studio.
YOR Sessions

These once-in-a-lifetime musical experiences will not only bring relevant and compelling artists to the Colorado community, but will give Youth on Record students the opportunity to learn all aspects of the recording arts. Annual recordings will be released on a compilation album, with proceeds from the sales benefiting Youth on Record’s music programs for underserved, local teens.
