‘Avoir une nuit blanche’  directly translates to ‘to have a blank night’. What it really means is you missed the last metro home and you’ll be spending the rest of the night dancing and drinking red wine without catching a wink of sleep (ah, shucks).

Indeed, that is just what synth-pop group Retrofette plans to bring to the comfort of your own home in late August. Retrofette’s Nuit Blanche: a wild, romping, 24 hour marathon DJ set. The catch here is for every wild partier that joins them, local nonprofit Youth on Record will receive a donation. For a full day, sponsors will donate $1 for every view that the live stream receives.

“We wanted to do live streaming with our own special twist,” says Sean of Retrofette. “We wanted to create something more fun than your average livestream concert, that also inspired a sense of community while being socially distanced. So, all you have to do is come dance with us, and you will strengthen our local music community.” It is a fundraiser tailor-made for the time of coronavirus.

And that money isn’t going to just any nonprofit. Youth on Record is the nonprofit that a city needs in this moment- it provides education, a safe place, and a career path for underserved young artists while creating stable employment for established musicians. It’s helping to not only create a music community that’s more diverse and flourishing, but a stronger, healthier Denver community at large. They continue to do this in the face of coronavirus, and an ever diminishing focus on arts education in schools.

While you are not obliged to donate in any way, and your mere presence helps this incredible nonprofit, there are some ways to get involved as the audience. Retrofette will be donating all profits from merch sales during the set, and fans can sponsor one of the 24 hours to receive a shout out at the top of that hour.

So let that last metro go and stay up with Retrofette for a critical cause. Sometimes there’s a benefit to dancing the night away.
