Homer, Alaska, Welcome to the Youth On Family!

Homer, Alaska

Cody Davidson, also know as Red 5, one of our greatest heroes, will be opening Youth On Record,Alaska! Through dedication to the Youth On Record vision and through his own fiercely independent nature, Cody has put all the pieces in place for the first Youth On Record program outside of Colorado. Cody taught classes in 2010 in Colorado with Nathan, Aaron and his brother Robby Switzer, for almost a year with the idea a returning to his beloved family and friends in Homer, to run a Youth On Record program. With the generous support from the Haven House, Alaska,  and his beautiful, soon-to-be wife, Brittany, and his own belief in his duty to the at-risk population, Cody will begin programming next week.

This represents the fulfillment of a vision that we at Youth On Record have always held, that by using technology and music we can help those who may be struggling to recognize those things within us that make life meaningful. We have always believed in the expansion of our model, because we experience such profound levels success with our students.

Congratulations Cody, you truly are Youth On Record!

Albums Are Done!

Here are the albums for the first quarter of 2012! You guys killed it. For those of you that do not know, student albums are the culmination of the semester's work from Youth On Record students. It is required that each student attempt to put a song on the class compilation. The works must be of a certain level of competence to be on the album and must also demonstrate a the understanding of all the major concepts learned on the quarter.

The Youth Media Studio

In partnership with Denver Housing Authority, Flobots.org and Youth On Record will be opening Denver's Youth Media Studio in the fall of 2013. This will be a state state of the art music studio which will serve all students of greater Metro Denver. Specifically for Youth On Record, it will enable students transitioning from residential treatment back into the community to intern, learn and continue being a part of shaping the landscape of Denver. We have also partnered with Playing For Change, who have opened many music schools in Africa over the past four years.

The groundbreaking event featured comments from the mayor and other dignitaries of Denver. The ceremony was held at the future home of the Youth Media Studio, 10th and Osage, in Denver's La Alma neighborhood. The reception, which featured members of the Flobots, the Playing for Change Band and others, was graciously djayed by DJ RIPM, a new member of the Flobots.org team who has graced the Youth On Record classroom in the past. It was an amazing event!
