Dylan – Highlands Street Festival

by Aaron

Transition student Dylan played his largest show ever at The Highlands Street Fair at the stage hosted by El Camino Community Tavern. He played a great set in front of a really positive crowd, and he's got some cool opportunities coming up.

Dylan Saile and Ricky Steec

Dylan played an open mic at The Mercury Cafe last week as well, and he met a traveling artist named Ricky Steece who came down to the Flobots.org Community Space to record some songs with him.

The Robot Song - Ricky Steece with Dylan

I'm not affiliated with you so I'll just state, I'm a robot I run off the brain washing

So do as I state, there's order in everything, so do as I say and you'll be saved

I'll advertise, I'll write my slogan, are there even lines, are there even lies

So in my rise I'll make you want it, want it, I'll fool you

And I know you wanted to stay, and I know you'll be humbled either way

But I can't change my brain, I'm stuck in all the shame

I'm a vessel get in my mind, well I want to own everything

So get in line, get in line, and I'll tell you which way

Gerard. – Rooster and Moon Fundraiser

by Aaron

Gerard.

Transition Student Dylan, aka Gerard., came to the Flobots.org Community Collective on Friday, and we were able to do some preliminary recordings to prepare for some real time in a professional recording studio. He put down two nice tracks in a couple of hours:

Gerard. - Curs in the Weeds

+

Gerard. - Spinning Our Wheels

Then, on Saturday night, he was graciously supervised by a Third Way Center staff member as he performed at our fundraiser at Rooster and Moon. Dylan played a full set of original music in front a great crowd that included Craig DeLeone from Devereux Cleo Wallace as well as the emcees from The Flobots and even his mother Patricia showed up with some special guests. Dylan performed alongside a great lineup of artists from the Flobots.org Partner Artist Network including DJ Cavem and Molina. He knocked it out of the park, and we've got more in store for him as he progresses through the program. The sky's the limit Dylan!

Thanks to everyone for supporting the fundraiser and for showing love and encouragement to Dylan as he matures as an artist and as a young man. He has a lot to look forward to with multiple performances throughout the summer, recording time in a pro studio, volunteer opportunities, and eventually he can step into a role as a student-teacher helping out in the classroom. We're lucky to have him.

If you are interested in supporting Flobots.org, please participate in our annual campaign at Giveo.com.

Special Guest: Soul Daddy

by Aaron

Soul Daddy at Savio House

Today we welcomed Alan Brooks aka 'Soul Daddy' into the Savio House classroom to teach a lyrics and songwriting workshop with the young students there. He spoke about the realities and ins and outs of the music industry, and we circled up and wrote a hilarious song as a class. Alan does a great job with the kids, and we were lucky to have him in the classroom. Thanks Soul Daddy.
