Show and Tell

Devereux Cleo Wallace

Week Thirteen

September 8, 2010

We welcomed a couple new students today! That means that we are full, as far as students go, and that we are ready to proceed with the formal lessons. We began the class by reiterating that Youth On Record is a privilege, and that participation in the class is premised by observing all aspects of one's treatment.  We have had a couple students now that have been unable to attend for this reason, and although it is a challenge for us to keep these students current with our program, it is challenge that we welcome because it is evidence that Youth On Record is being used as a tool for the student's treatment, and this is what we had originally intended. We want to compliment the student's treatment as much as we can and defer to the host program to choose how to use us.

The class was rather informal because we are waiting until this Monday to begin with lesson one, with this new group of students. We talked individually with the new students, so they were reasonably informed and would not discouraged over the weekend about not getting right to work. The students then worked individually, and in cooperation, on various projects, at the end which we had show and tell. All but two of the students participated, and it was really amazing to hear the diversity in the music. All the students were enthusiastic about all the songs, and offered great feedback. We are so looking forward to the things to come with this group!
