Week Two, Lesson One
June 14, 2010
We are so fortunate to be working with these kids! The students' enthusiasm for what we are doing is great, and wow did they come up with some different stuff musically. Together we covered the basics of Sony Acid Xpress- the functions that allow a student to navigate the program and begin making music. The students responded very well and understood all that was presented rather quickly. Afterward, the students were given free time to explore Acid and the sample bank for the first time. When it came time to share what they had discovered, reflected in their initial arrangements of the samples they chose, we were pleasantly surprised at the sophistication and the variety of the music that was shared. This is the first time that we, as a program, are working with, not only this particular age group (15-18), but a co-ed population. We look forward to expanding our teaching strategies in order to accommodate older students with a more advanced sense of musical understanding.
